4 weeks in!

Doesn't time fly when your having fun? The last four weeks have been amazing! I've done so much already and have lot's more to do before placement commences. I cannot wait :) The last three weeks have been focused on theory, we have had to learn loads of the body systems and memorise them! I won't lie, it has been hard, my mind isnt properly in study mode after the summer holidays but i am starting a study time table and have been reading lots. We have had an assignment already which wasn't very big but I wanted mine to be perfect and revised it about 10 times. People say you shouldn't leave it until the last moment but my essays seem to be better when i do it that way LOL.  The girls on my course are great and I've made some great friends already!

We have completed our basic life support training which was great fun. I didnt think i would remember it but I do and im so proud of myself! We also have our lifting and handling training very soon and trust induction day which i cannot wait for. The girls at my hospital are lovely and I know we will be a great support to each other.

Well that's it for now, there is lot's more to say but i'm kinda in a rush! will write again soon! x

So much to do so little time!

I think the title of this post is self-explainatory. I have so much to do and only 13 days to do it! I still haven't sent my NHS bursary forms away- I havent got a passport or any other of the photo i.d that they require so can't do anything at the moment and I can't get i.d until my verifier gets in touch and tells me when they are available to sign the forms! I probably won't get any money until December now and will have to live of my student finance loan which won't be much. I wish the world didn't revolve around money! I also desperately need to get some new clothes but travelling to university is more important!

Enrolled online yesterday to my student portal! It is all getting very real now! I found out that we are all going to have a breakfast together on our first day which will be nice!! I want to know how many days per week we are going to be in as well but the details are not online yet!! :(

14 days! OMG

So I have 20 days until I'm a student midwife. To say I'm excited and nervous would be an understatement! I've been waiting for this moment for so long! When university's told me that I would not get into Midwifery as it was so competitive and the fact I had no A levels and no experience would go against me I'm so glad I wasn't persuaded like some of my friends to change my mind. Some of them wanted to do childrens nursing and midwifery but followed the uni's advice and now they are regretting it.

I'm very scared of all the responsibility I will have- not so much when I'm a student but when I qualify. Anything goes wrong and it's on my shoulders! I feel so young to have that responsibility. I'm scared I'm not academic enough to complete the degree. I'm scared I will forget important things when I'm on the ward and that I won't be able to pronounce certain words.

Anyway enough negativity! I've been buying stationary whilst it's on special offer. I think this is my favourite sort of shopping! I still have some bits left to buy but not much!!! Ive been boring- well I call it professional and bought everything in plain white, brown and black colours! I'm growing up!!!

Autumn feels like it's coming again, I cannot wait for scarves, boots, fluffy blankets and Halloween! I'm defo making some toffee apples this year and skull chocolates covered in glitter....yuuummmm!

Look at these wonderful ideas!!!

Those bom boms look AMAZING! I wonder if they would work with chocolate truffles? Guess I will have to try it out!

MyFitnessPal- wanna be my friend?

So after years of making new years resolutions to lose weight and get fit, I finally decided to do something about it and signed up for http://www.myfitnesspal.com/

This website which is FREE to use, allows you to input your current weight and height and how much you wish to lose as well as how many sessions of exercise you will take part in per week. It then tells you how many calories, protein, carbs and fat you can eat in order to lose weight, how many pounds you will lose per week and how long it will take!

If you want to lose weight but can't afford weightwatchers or the gym then this is a really good idea! You can also make friends on there to help you stay motivated. I've wanted to lose weight for ages to feel better about myself. I hate going into clothes shops and hating the way clothes fit. I also want to be fit for my midwifery training, it won't be good if I'm always out of breath on the wards!!!

If you wish to add me, my name is fun_and_fit. I feel I need to explain that name a bit more as it sounds like a name you would find on a dating site! I choose the name to reflect how I wish to be in the future, fun as in enjoying life and fit as in not feeling tired and sluggish!

I really hope I can keep this up and get to my goal weight and I'm going to stay positive and see how it goes!

Hears to losing weight!

My midwifery journey so far

Well as the title says this post is about my journey to becoming a midwife.I did have two posts already written up and published about my journey so far, however I decided to take them down for the moment as I didn't feel comfy with what I had written. Maybe one day I will have the courage to repost them but for now I will give you a simple run down of my journey so far.

I decided I wanted to be a midwife after the birth of my 7th sibling, a beautiful little girl who I adore with all my heart. At the hospital I met a wonderful newly qualified midwife who truly inspired me to follow the dream. Even though I could tell her job was hard and demanding she never failed to be calm and kind to the women in her care and I thought, this is what I want to do! Of course I had thought about midwifery as a career before but as I was quite young and home schooled I never thought I was clever enough to be able to do a degree.

After the birth of my sister I enrolled in an Access course and completed it with mainly merits and distinctions-I was quite clever after all! During my time on the Access course I also gained work experience with a community midwife in a childrens centre and shadowed a midwife at NCT antenatal classes. I applied to 5 uni's and was offered a place at a London University where I am currently waiting to commence my studying. I have just completed an occupational health check and I am waiting for my UCAS to turn unconditional.

So yeah, this is my journey so far! Hopefully this blog will be filled with happy memories after 3 years that I can look back on and reminisce about!

Beautiful Bedrooms

Lately, I have been dreaming of making my bedroom into an inspiring place that I can chill out and do uni work in. The house I live in is rented and very plain! These are the bedrooms i'm drawing inspiration from (warning some of the rooms belong to kiddies) LOL.
